UEFA’s ruling body Wants to Examine Turkey Footballers Military Salute in their Euro 2020 qualifier

UEFA’s ruling body Wants to Examine Turkey Footballers Military Salute in their Euro 2020 qualifier

The UEFA’s ruling body said that they will “ examine” reports that Turkey footballers performed a military salute in their Euro 2020 qualifier against Albania to mark their country ’s widely - condemned armed offensive against Kurds in Syria.

“Personally, I have not seen this gesture, which could be considered a provocation,” UEFA’ s press chief Philip Townsend uttered.“ Does the regulation prohibit references to politics and religion? Yes , and I can guarantee you that we will look at this situation.”

The salute was made after Cenk Tosun’ s winning goal for Turkey in the game in Istanbul on Friday. In Turkey , it is common for celebrities, including footballers, to show their support for the security forces after attacks or during military operations . The Turkish offensive began on Wednesday after US President Donald Trump ordered American troops to pull back from the border area of north -east Syria .

After the match , a photo was also posted on the official Twitter account of the national team . In it , the players are seen making a military salute with the tweet indicating the players “ have dedicated their victory to our brave soldiers and fellow martyrs”.

Meanwhile, at the world gymnastics championships in Stuttgart, Turkey’ s Ibrahim Colak made a military- style salute on the podium after winning gold in the men ’s rings event. It was not known if the gesture was linked to the military campaign .

Coleman Storms To Victory In The 100m At The World Championships

Christian Coleman fastest athletes

Christian Coleman stormed to victory in the 100 metres at the World Championships in Doha on Saturday. The defending champion Justin Gatlin took silver in 9. 89sec at the age of 37 while Canada ’s Andre De Grasse claimed bronze in 9 .90sec .

Coleman , who has previously criticised USADA for bringing the case against him , again protested his innocence following Saturday’ s win.

“ I did nothing wrong ,” Coleman said. “ To me , I’m just a young black man living my dream. “ It’s kind of disappointing that someone would leak that information to try and smear my reputation. I just keep doing me and representing the sport the right way. Emphatically shrugging off the missed drug test controversy which had threatened to derail his career.

However, the United States Anti - Doping Agency (USADA) abruptly withdrew the charges on September 2 after a review of the rules regarding how the 12- month window should be calculated.

The 23- year - old American , who escaped a doping ban earlier this month on a technicality, swept over the finish line in a world - leading personal best of 9.76sec to claim his first major outdoor championship gold medal. It completed a flawless championship campaign for Coleman , who had been the only man to duck under 10 seconds in both Friday ’s opening rounds and Saturday’ s semi - finals .

Coleman ’s win in perfect conditions at the Khalifa Stadium was never in doubt , the stocky 2017 World Championships silver medallist exploding out of the blocks to take the lead over the opening 20 metres

The American let out a roar of triumph as he crossed the line before punching the air in jubilation after a performance which makes him the sixth fastest man in history. “ I am humble , I am just here to win titles ,” an elated Coleman said afterwards. “ It is an incredible time, it is a PR for me . I think the sky’ s the limit , I think I still have a lot of things I can work on and improve , I think I can keep dropping my time,” added the 60m indoor world record holder .

The victory was the culmination of a rollercoaster season for Coleman , whose participation in the championships had been in doubt until only three weeks ago. Coleman , who has strongly denied ever using performance- enhancing drugs , was left facing a lengthy suspension in August after it emerged he had registered three drug - testing “ whereabouts ” failures in a 12- month period. The violation is regarded as equivalent to a failed drug test and often followed by a ban of up to two years.

Yet Coleman avoided a sanction when the case against him was dropped in early September because of a technicality. Coleman had recorded his first whereabouts failure on June 6 last year , before two more offences in January 16 and April 26 this year.

However, the United States Anti - Doping Agency (USADA) abruptly withdrew the charges on September 2 after a review of the rules regarding how the 12- month window should be calculated. Like I said, I didn’ t do anything wrong. ”Coleman ’s win on Saturday leaves him as the man to beat heading into 2020 and the Tokyo Olympics , where he aims to claim the now retired Usain Bolt ’s throne .

Coleman , however , played down suggestions that he was ready to fill the void left by triple Olympic 100m and 200m champion Bolt ’s departure from athletics. “ I don ’t think anyone will be able to replicate what he (Bolt ) did in the sport ,” Coleman said. “ All you can try and do is be the best that you can be , not try to be like him . He ’ s always going to be a part of the sport .“ But if I continue working hard , honing my craft and being the best I can , I definitely think I can win gold medals .”

Gianluigi Buffon Returns To The Juventus After Spending A Season In Paris Saint - Germain

Italian goalkeeping legend Gianluigi Buffon returned to the Juventus goal after spending a season in Paris Saint - Germain to match Paolo Maldini ’s Italian record of 902 club matches. Buffon ’s appearances have been spread across three clubs — Parma , Juventus and PSG — with Maldini having spent his entire career with Serie A rivals Milan .

The 41- year - old — who played his last game for Juventus also against Verona in May 2018 — could not keep a clean sheet and was beaten by Veloso after 21 minutes.

Aaron Ramsey ’s first Juventus goal on his maiden start and Cristiano Ronaldo ’s spot - kick winner saw the Italian champions seal a comeback 2- 1 win over Verona on Saturday that put them top of Serie A ahead of the Milan derby.

Amid confusion in front of the Juve goal after Simone Di Carmine missed a Verona penalty , and Darko Lazovic ’s rebound rattled the bar , Veloso pounced to rifle a long range strike past Buffon. But Ramsey got the champions back on level terms 10 minutes later on his full debut after coming on late against Atletico , with a deflected effort past Verona goalkeeper Marco Silvestri .

Ronaldo put Juventus ahead from the spot with just his second goal this season three minutes after the restart, having missed two chances before the break .

Welsh international Ramsey pulled Juventus level in the 31st minute in Turin in reply to Miguel Veloso’s early Verona goal, with a well - taken Ronaldo penalty ensuring all three points for the hosts just after the break .

It got Maurizio Sarri’ s side back to winning ways after last weekend’s Serie A stalemate at Fiorentina and a 2 - 2 Champions League draw at Atletico Madrid midweek .

“ After the Champions League the team was tired, but the important thing was to win. Let ’ s take these three points and go ahead, ” said Ronaldo .

Sarri’s side move one point ahead of Inter Milan at the top of the table before Antonio Conte ’s side play city rivals AC Milan later on Saturday.

Verona kept pushing with Buffon denying Mattia Zaccagni and Lazovic in front of goal after 89 minutes and Veloso denied a brace by the post .

Juve held on to take the three points with a Ronaldo free - kick hitting the opposition’ s wall in the last chance of the game after Verona defender Marash Kumbulla was sent off for a second yellow card .

“ This is a team under construction ,” said Sarri, who took over from Massimiliano Allegri ahead of this season.“ The defensive line obviously needs to improve.”Verona are 12th with four points from as many games.Carlo Ancelotti’ s Napoli travel south to promoted Lecce on Sunday after seeing off European champions Liverpool 2 - 0 on Tuesday .

Lampard Endured A Difficult Start On His Return To Stamford Bridge As Manager

Frank Lampard has endured a difficult start on his return to Stamford Bridge as manager, but he enjoyed his finest day so far in charge of the Blues with his faith in youth again fully vindicated. Fikayo Tomori, 21, fired the visitors in front at Molineux with his first goal for the club before Abraham took over to take his tally to seven in his last three games with three brilliant finishes from close range. Abraham’s busy afternoon was not over as he then turned into his own net and Patrick Cutrone cut Wolves’ deficit to two before Mason Mount rounded off the scoring for Chelsea late on.

Liverpool recovered from a shock Newcastle opener to open up a five-point lead at the top of the Premier League with a 3-1 win at Anfield, as Tottenham and Chelsea bounced back to form with big wins on Saturday. Tammy Abraham’s sensational form continued as the English forward scored a hat-trick as Chelsea romped to a 5-2 win at Wolves. Spurs were 4-0 up by half-time against Crystal Palace to record just their second win of the season as Son Heung-min scored twice, while Erik Lamela and an own goal from Patrick van Aanholt rounded off the scoring on a miserable day for the Eagles.

An injury-hit Manchester United coped without Paul Pogba to inflict Leicester’s first defeat of the season as Marcus Rashford scored the only goal from the penalty spot in a 1-0 win at Old Trafford. United join Tottenham and Chelsea on eight points from five games, but Liverpool protected the only 100 percent record in the league by reacting to a slow start in style.

Manchester City can close the gap at the top to two points with victory later on Saturday at Norwich. Jetro Willems fired Newcastle in front on seven minutes to leave the European champions trailing at Anfield for the first time since March. However, any lasting rift between Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah from Liverpool’s last outing away to Burnley -- when Mane was upset at the Egyptian for his greediness in front of goal -- was forgotten as they combined to score all three goals for the hosts.

Mane fired into the top corner to start the revival, but it was the introduction of Roberto Firmino off the bench for the injured Divock Origi that truly turned the tide in Liverpool’s favour.

The Brazilian’s through ball was spilled by Martin Dubravka to allow Mane a simple task for his second just before half-time, and another brilliant Firmino flick teed up Salah to seal the points 18 minutes from time.

“I started enjoying after 25 minutes, around about when we arrived finally in the game,” said Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

“Second half we scored only one goal, but we played really good football and I liked it a lot. There were a few moments I enjoyed, not a lot but a few and enough to be the deserved winner today.”

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino hoped that the end of the European transfer window would settle his squad and the Champions League finalists looked more like their old selves by tearing apart Palace from the off. Son was the star of the show as the South Korean opened the scoring then finished off a fine team move by volleying home Serge Aurier’s cross after Van
Aanholt deflected a cross into his own net.

Harry Kane was unable to build on his goalscoring form for England, but did play a part in the fourth as his cross was turned home by Lamela. United had to suffer far more for just a second win in 10 league matches at home to the Foxes as Rashford shrugged off his recent miss from the spot against Palace to convert a penalty on eight minutes after he had been brought down by Caglar Soyuncu. Brighton edged out Burnley 1-0 at the Amex thanks to Neil Maupay’s winner early in the second-half. Southampton were also 1-0 victors at Sheffield United courtesy of a brilliant strike from Moussa Djenepo.

Cristiano Ronaldo Scores His 93rd International Goal for Portugal

Top international goal scorer - Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has scored his 93rd international goals for Portugal to defeat Lithuania in Euro 2020 qualifying.

Ronaldo's 20-yard shot went in off the head of Lithuania goalkeeper Ernestas Setkus and he scored two more from Bernardo Silva passes, before William Carvalho's injury-time fifth.

Making him 16 behind Iran legend Ali Daei's world record. He scored an early penalty, before Vytautas Andriuskevicius equalised.

Serbia moved up into third place in the group with a 3-1 win at Luxembourg, with Aleksandar Mitrovic scoring twice.

The result keeps Portugal in an automatic qualifying place, five points behind Group B leaders Ukraine. It was an eighth international hat-trick for 34-year-old Ronaldo, who also scored four against Andorra in 2016.

The new head of coach of Watford Fc Sanchez

Watford Football Club has declared the appointment of Quique Sanchez Flores as the club ’s new Head Coach, the club said in a statement. After Javi Gracia was sacked just four games into the season , the Premier League team announced on Saturday. Sanchez has returned to the Watford bench as the new head coach.

Dumped Gracia meanwhile had been a popular figure at Vicarage Road — guiding the club to 11th in the Premier League and a first FA Cup final for 35 years last season .

Jadon Sancho Sets A New Record in Bundesliga

Goal

Jadon Sancho has set a new stride by becoming  the youngest player in Bundesliga history to score the highest number of goals. Sancho has scored 15 goals in the league, breaking a half-century old record.

Jadon Sancho , the 19-year-old attacker continued to cement his status as one of the league's best players as he delivered the equaliser for Borussia Dortmund against Cologne in the club’s second match of the season Friday.

Achraf Hakimi would find the back of the net 16 minutes later to give Dortmund the lead while Sancho chipped in again late on, assisting Paco Alcacer’s stoppage time insurance tally to give the visitors a 3-1 victory.

That brings Sancho’s total up to two goals and two assists already in the new season as he picks up from where he left off last campaign.

A first-half goal from Dominick Draxler had put the hosts up, but Sancho’s 70th minute goal, assisted by Thorgan Hazard, helped turn the tide in the contest.

Last season saw Sancho score 12 goals and add 14 assists in the league as he helped Dortmund to a title challenge that saw them take the race all the way to the final matchday of the season, though they fell short to Bayern Munich.

Recall that in July, the 29 year old player had been fined and suspended for six weeks for breaching betting rules . Trabzonspor is in eighth place in the Turkish Super Lig after one game of the campaign and plays Greece’ s AEK Athens in the play - off round of the Europa League

“ We have agreed on a three- year deal with a one -year option for the professional footballer Daniel Sturridge,” Trabzonspor said in a statement .

The outfit based in the northern Turkish city of Trabzon did not give further details of the transfer .

Sturridge , a 26- time England international left European champions Liverpool when his contract expired at the end of June.

Dani Alves Scored The Winning Goal On His Debut For Sao Paulo

Dani Alves return to Brazil after 17 years playing for top clubs in Europe has had a big impact on his home country. Alves is a Brazil veteran who scored the winning goal on his debut for Sao Paulo on Sunday , weeks after signing a three- year deal with the club. Alves , 36, found the back of the net in the 40th minute to score the only goal of the game against Ceara.

The right- back played for Sevilla before going on to play for Barcelona, Juventus and PSG , collecting nine national league titles along the way — six in Spain, one in Italy and two in France. He has collected 40 trophies in all with club and country including three Champions League titles with Barcelona and two UEFA Cups with Sevilla

Alves and Spanish international Juanfran, 34, are the stars for Sao Paulo, who snapped up both players after their contracts with European clubs expired.

Juanfran arrived in Sao Paulo after an extensive career in Spain where he played for Real Madrid, Espanyol, Osasuna and Atletico Madrid. He has also won two Copa Americas with Brazil , most recently in July when he was named player of the tournament as he captained them to victory over Peru in the final at the Maracana in Rio de Janeiro.

Guardiola Believes Man Untd, Chelsea and Arsenal Will Threat To Prevent City

Pep Guardiola - Coach

Pep Guardiola believed Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal will pose a threat to prevent City and Liverpool fighting out a two- horse race for the title like last season. Recall that Tottenham Hotspur may have finished fourth in the Premier League last season , far behind champions Manchester City and Champions League winners Liverpool , but City manager Guardiola has branded Spurs the “ second best team in Europe ” ahead of the two sides ’ meeting on Saturday .

Guardiola was referring to the fact that Tottenham knocked out City on their way to a first ever Champions League final last season before losing to Liverpool in Madrid. “ Last season , our first fixture was at the Emirates against Arsenal, ” he adds . “ The schedule is the schedule, so welcome to the Etihad Stadium.” “ I know how good Tottenham are ,” said Guardiola. “ It’s the second best team in Europe . For me , that is enough .”

“ Tottenham are really , really, good contenders ,” he states. “ Since I came here to England , every season Spurs was a real contender .
“ In the first season they finished second. We won in the last two seasons, but they were always there.”

“ I am impressed with how Chelsea played in two tough matches against top teams , ” said the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager . “ I was really surprised by how good Frank Lampard ’s team played .

However, bar their 1 - 0 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in the first leg of that Champions League quarter- final, City have won five of the last six meetings between the teams and finished 27 points above them in the league. Since Tottenham’s last trophy the English League Cup in 2008, City have won ten major trophies. But if anyone is going to bridge the huge gap that City and Liverpool opened up at the top of the league last season , Mauricio Pochettino ’s men appear best placed to do so .

“ We saw Manchester United and the quality they have up front in that first game . While Arsenal bought good players , especially like David Luiz and Dani Ceballos , who was a top player in Spain , and they have people up front like (Alexandre ) Lacazette and (Pierre- Emerick) Aubameyang.” The second match of the season is early to be facing one of your direct rivals for the title , but Guardiola has no complaints about the timing .

Ernesto is Likely to be Without Messi in Bilbao and Neto Sideline

The Barcelona Coach, Ernesto Valverde is already likely to be without Lionel Messi against Bilbao and the Barcelona’ s back - up goalkeeper Neto will be sidelined for 4 - 6 weeks after he underwent surgery Tuesday on his injured wrist, the club said .

Messi missed the friendly win over Napoli on Saturday after sustaining a calf tear in training last week.

Neto joined Barcelona this summer from Valencia, with fellow goalkeeper Jasper Cillessen leaving Camp Nou and going the other way.

More so, Neto , who suffered the injury in training while on a US tour , will, therefore, miss Barca’s opening La Liga game away to Athletic Bilbao on Friday .

“Doctor Xavier Mir successfully carried out surgery this morning on a fractured scaphoid bone on the left hand of first- team player Neto. The downtime will be around six to eight weeks ,” a club statement read.

Manchester City Defeats Liverpool With A 5-4 Penalty Shoot

Manchester City  defeated Liverpool with a 5-4 penalty shoot-out win after a 1-1 draw in Community Shield at Wembley. Raheem Sterling gave City a first half lead before Joel Matip grabbed a late equaliser for Liverpool in the annual curtain-raiser to the English top-flight season. On the evidence of this hard-fought contest, which featured both flashes of quality and signs of rustiness, there will little to separate the two teams as they go head-to-head for the major prizes once again over the next 10 months. Retaining the Community Shield trophy they won 12 months ago would improve City’s belief that they can repeat last season’s remarkable silverware haul, but Liverpool could take encouragement as well after they finished strongly enough to have won.

In the shoot-out, City keeper Claudio Bravo saved from Georginio Wijnaldum, with Gabriel Jesus driving in the winning kick after successful efforts from Ilkay Gundogan, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden and Oleksandr Zinchenko. The jubilant celebrations from City’s players and fans showed inflicting an early psychological blow on Liverpool was a moment to savour, regardless of the supposed warm-up status of the glamour friendly. With City installed as favourites to win the title for a third successive season and Liverpool expected to present the strongest challenge to Pep Guardiola’s side, their meeting on the eve of the season was a window into what to expect this term.

After pipping Liverpool to last season’s Premier League title with 98 points to their rivals’ 97, City went on to complete an unprecedented domestic treble by adding the FA Cup to the League Cup they won earlier in the campaign. But Jurgen Klopp’s men didn’t dwell on that painful near-miss as they won the Champions League just weeks later.

The only dark cloud for City was an injury to Leroy Sane, who limped off in the 10th minute holding his right leg after collapsing while chasing a long pass. Sane was playing on the day reports claimed his agents had agreed a contract with Bayern Munich, who are keen to sign the Germany winger. City’s victory was a well-time riposte for Guardiola, who this week hit back at Klopp’s claim that the champions live in a transfer “fantasy land”.

The 23-year-old’s composed passing and physical presence showed why City’s financial muscles have been flexed again. Sterling hadn’t scored in his last 10 appearances against Liverpool in all competitions, but the England winger ended that drought in the 12th minute. Kyle Walker’s high pass to the far post caught Liverpool appealing in vain for offside as Kevin De Bruyne headed on to David Silva.

Silva flicked towards Sterling and his close-range effort was just strong enough to escape the grasp of Reds keeper Alisson Becker and trickle over the line. Much improved after the interval, Liverpool were inches away from equalising when Virgil van Dijk’s half-volley crashed down off the crossbar onto the goalline before City scrambled clear. Salah was by far Liverpool’s most menacing player and he twisted away from the City defence before firing a fierce strike that cannoned off the outside of the post.

Guardiola had his head in his hands in frustration when Sterling again ran clear on goal without scoring as his hesitant stumble allowed Alisson to save at his feet.City paid for that miss when Liverpool deservedly equalised in the 77th minute, Van Dijk helping on Jordan Henderson’s free-kick before substitute Matip headed in from close-range. Walker’s incredible overhead-kick clearance then repelled what looked to be a late Salah winner, setting up City’s shoot-out triumph that stood as the opening salvo in what looks set to be a season

Solskjaer's Side Strolled to a 2-0 Win In Australia Without Romelu Lukaku

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side strolled to a 2-0 win in Australia with Romelu
Lukaku not included in the match-day squad due to a minor injury.

The 26-year-old's absence comes in the wake of Inter beginning negotiations with United over a possible transfer a few days ago.

Asked whether Lukaku would be a Red Devils player next season, Solskjaer kept his cards close to his chest.

The future of Romelu Lukaku at Manchester United remains firmly up in the air, with the Belgian striker rested in the Red Devils' first pre-season outing against Perth Glory on Saturday.

"Let’s see when the season starts," Solskjaer said.

"We’ve not had any bids that we’re considering. All my conversations with the players I will keep confidential. That’s between us - that's my privilege.

"There’s been so much speculation but yes he should be fit for Wednesday. He trained with the team yesterday but he wasn’t useful today."
