Security And Safety In Relationship to First Aid

In providing first aid in an emergence, one must be mindful and conscious of what goes on around or with one. First aid must be carried out in a saved and secured manner in order to avoid more casualties or victims. Situations around the casualty must be addressed first.


  1. The First-aider: The only hope of safety in an emergence is the skilled first aider. His safety must first be ensured. Any injury done to the first aider will definitely avert the hope of safety.
  2. The By-standers or Passers-by: These are the second group of people to consider for safety in an emergence. This is done in order to avoid more casualties or victims.
  3. The Casualty: The casualty is considered last. He or she is already in the danger.
  4. The Casualty’s Properties: It is very necessary to ensure the safety of all properties found on the casualties or recover from any incidence, especially, at the accident scene for record purpose. All materials must be documented and kept safe.

  1. Avoid contact with casualty’s body fluid. Always protect your hands when you are in an emergence. You can wear disposable gloves or improvise.
  2.  Always act in a secure condition. Your own life as a first aider is very paramount, so be assure of your own safety. Also, do not attend to your casualty in a close corner.
  3. Remain alert always. Seek for help from people around you. Always seek for eyewitnesses when attending to a casualty.
  4. Deal with ongoing danger. Always be conscious of what goes on around you in an emergence. Watch out for any possible danger.
  5. Put caution sign. This is very necessary, especially on the highway, in order to avert further accidents or more casualties.

  1. Call for medical help.
  2. Ensure a safe environment.
  3. Treat casualties in order of priority.
  4. Take proper records of all the materials found on the casualty and keep them safe.
  5. On no occasion should you make a speech with the PRESS in an emergence. All reports and correspondence must be directed to the state branch secretary.
  6. Protect the dignity of you casualty, especially, if it is a female casualty.
  7. Prepare your report.
  8. Always identify yourself with the emblem.
  9. Transport your casualties to the hospital.

At an emergence, any number of things may demand your attention at the same time if you try to do everything at once. You may easily get sidetracked into non-vital activities. Always work to a plan, bearing in mind the main steps of emergency action which are:
