Burkina Faso Declares Emergency

"The president has decided to declare a state of emergency in certain provinces of Burkina Faso. He has also given instructions for specific security measures across the country," Dandjinou said after a cabinet meeting that followed a deadly attack on police.

Ten gendarmes were killed and three wounded on Thursday in an ambush in the northwest of the country, near the border with Mali.

The state of emergency applies to a number of provinces that lie within seven of the country's 13 administrative regions, Dandjinou said.

The regions are Hauts-Bassins, Boucle du Mouhoun, Cascades, North and Sahel, in the west and north of the country, and the East and Centre-East in the east.

Names of the provinces where the state of emergency is to be applied will be made public in a presidential decree, he said.

Burkina Faso is declaring a state of emergency in provinces grappling with jihadist violence, Communications Minister Remis Fulgance Dandjinou said on Monday.

Not Considering Real Madrid Exit -Isco

Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester United have been mentioned as a possible landing spot, with Serie A leaders Juventus and French giants Paris Saint-Germain also linked with the 26-year-old in recent days.

But the player is looking to play down any thoughts that he could be looking for a way out this winter, claiming that he is still “very happy” at Madrid.

"I'm not thinking about leaving in the winter market," the Spain international told Deportes Cuatro on Sunday.

"I'm very happy, my goal is to win many titles at Real Madrid."

Out-of-favour Real Madrid star Isco insists he is not contemplating leaving the club in January despite failing to win over new coach Santiago Solari.

Isco last started a La Liga match in the 5-1 Clasico humiliation by Barcelona on October 28, Julen Lopetegui's final game in charge.

Since then, Isco has made Madrid's starting XI just twice; the 6-1 Copa del Rey thrashing of minnows Melilla and a shock 3-0 home defeat to CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.

Philippine Storm

The weather disturbance locally named “Usman” hit the country on Saturday. While it did not have powerful winds it brought heavy rains that caused floods and loosened the soil, triggering landslides in some areas.

Many people failed to take necessary precautions because Usman was not strong enough to be rated as a typhoon under the government’s storm alert system, Mr. Yucot said.

Although Usman has since moved westward away from the country, many affected areas were still experiencing seasonal rains, hampering rescue and recovery efforts, he added.

At least 17 people are still missing and more than 40,000 were displaced nationwide due to the storm, the civil defence office said.

The death toll from a storm that struck the Philippines shortly after Christmas rose to 68 with the number of fatalities expected to climb even higher, civil defence officials said on Monday.

Fifty-seven people died in the mountainous Bicol region, southeast of Manila, while 11 were killed in the central island of Samar, mostly due to landslides and drownings, the officials said.

“I am afraid this [death toll] will still go up because there are a lot of areas we still have to clear,” said Claudio Yucot, Bicol civil defence director.

Open House

Any night of the week you would find friends around Joel's house. Weekends were a speciality. “It ‘s so much better round here than at my place,” remarked Andy, one of his best friends. “Why's that?” Asked Joel.

“Well, your mum's so cool. Here we are up in your room, making a noise , playing music and the only thing your mum does is bring us food!” He grinned as he tucked into his third cake.

“Why? What does your mum do?” Asked Joel, puzzled.

“She’d kick us all out for start!” He replied. “There is no way she'd let me have my friends upstairs - and absolutely no way she'd make food for them!”

Joel thought about this after his friend had left, and later spoke to his parents about what Andy had said. “ I thought all parents were like you, “ he smiled. “So, why do you do all these things for me ?” His mother Cheryl laughed.

“Joel, you're our son, we love seeing you happy and having fun. If your friends want to come round that's great. We get to meet them and talk to them, and the house is full of life, what could be better? Plus of course, we know where you are and who you are with .”

Joel pondered this for a while and then asked, “ But things get spilt on the carpet and sometimes you have to come and remind us of the time ; don't you mind?”

“I can easily clean things up,” his mother replied . “So, you ‘d better get it through your head that like having you around , it's house too you know.”

Hymn for Today
All I Have In Adam Is But Of Sin And Death (Witness Lee)

All I have in Adam is but sin and death,
I in Christ inherit life and righteousness;
When in flesh abiding, Adam I express,
But when in the spirit Christ is manifest.

When I am in Adam, though I may not sin,
Unto death, a sinner, sentenced I have been;
When in Christ I need not righteously to act,
I'm already righteous, justified in fact.

In the flesh I need no effort to express
Marks of Adam's nature and its sinfulness;
In the spirit I need not to strive or strain,
I can live as He is and in spirit reign.

Thru my death with Christ, from Adam I am free,
Thru my life with Christ, new life is given me!
Minding not the flesh, old Adam cannot move,
Minding just the spirit, life divine I prove.

Minding just the spirit is God's saving way,
Minding just the spirit, Christ we will display;
Minding just the spirit, we can overcome,
Minding just the spirit, we the race may run.

Minding just the spirit, we the cross will know,
And His resurrection pow'r thru us will flow;
Minding just the spirit, Christ will.live thru me,
And His life within will reach maturity.

In the spirit Christ is life and all to me,
Strengthening and blessing all-inclusively;
Living in the spirit, holiness I prove,
And the triune God within my heart doth move.

Liverpool Thrashes Arsenal

Liverpool's pressure did not subside after half-time and Firmino completed his treble from the spot 25 minutes from time, rounding off a miserable day for the Gunners and increasing the heat on Manchester City ahead of their meeting with Southampton on Sunday.

Roberto Firmino was at his ruthless best as he scored his first Premier League hat-trick to inspire a 5-1 demolition of Arsenal at Anfield and put Liverpool nine points clear at the summit after Tottenham's defeat to Wolves.

The visit of Unai Emery's men was seen as a potentially troublesome fixture, but the Reds made light work of them, with all of their revered front three finding the net in a devastating performance.

A chaotic five-minute spell in the first half saw Ainsley Maitland-Niles put Arsenal ahead, before a quickfire Firmino brace turned the score around. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah ensured a rampant Liverpool went into the break 4-1 up.
