[1] Arteta's Tactical Tweak that helped Man City Kill off Arsenal
When Bernardo Silva scored for Manchester City against Arsenal on Sunday, Pep Guardiola turned to Mikel Arteta and threw his arms around his second-in-command.

Rodolfo Borrell, another coach given greater responsibility this season, joined in the celebrations, putting his arm around Arteta and slapping him on the back. The images suggested Arteta had played a significant role in City’s second goal, one which put the game out of Arsenal’s reach.

And it has now emerged that Arteta was indeed instrumental in the Premier League champions kicking off their title defence with a victory.

“Do you remember from Sunday’s game, after the second goal, Pep’s hug with Mikel?” Marti Perarnau, who wrote two books on Guardiola’s three-year spell in charge at Bayern Munich.

“That was because Mikel said to Mendy, ‘Don’t make a high cross when you get to the end line, make a cut-back along the floor,’ and after that Bernardo scored the goal. “He [also] talked with Mendy and Sterling to try to make a double pass before the last cut-back.”

[2] Nigerian Omeruo Completes 7th Loan Spell from Chelsea
Kenneth Omeruo has joined Leganes on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea. The player had been presented alongside other Leganes player to fans on Tuesday evening but his deal from the Blues was officially announced on Wednesday morning, with an official unveiling set to follow on Friday.

Prior to the start of the 2017-18 campaign, Omeruo - who once revealed his frustration at lack of opportunities at Chelsea - renewed his contract with the former English top-flight champions till 2020 and was immediately shipped out for another spell at Kasimpasa. The Nigeria defender made 28 Turkish Super Lig appearances, scoring a goal in the process.

[3]Victor Moses Retires From International Football
Super Eagles and Chelsea forward, Victor Moses, has retired from international football. The 27-year-old announced this on Wednesday via his twitter handle. “I would like to announce that after much thought, I have made the decision to retire from playing international football,” he said.

“I have experienced some of the best moments of my life wearing the Super Eagles shirt and have memories with me that will last a lifetime. Nothing will ever compete to what it felt like to represent Nigeria on behalf of our country.” Moses explained that he took the decision to step away at this time, in order to focus fully on his club career and his young family.

He said his retirement was also to allow the next generation of football stars the opportunity to step up and flourish. He noted that the nation is blessed with many young players, stressing that the best to offer them was to give them the opportunity to show their talents.

[4] Costa Sets UEFA Super Cup Record
Diego Costa wasted no time in putting Atletico Madrid ahead against their city rivals Real on Wednesday, making UEFA Super Cup history in the process.

All eyes were on Julen Lopetegui's Madrid in the clash, as they took the field for the first time in a competitive game since losing Cristiano Ronaldo.

Lopetegui has thus far declined to replace the Portuguese with a new striker, but Costa's early exploits may just make him think twice.

Costa advanced up the right flank and smashed past Keylor Navas in the first minute of action in Tallinn, beating the goalkeeper from an acute angle at his near post. It took the Spain star just 49 seconds to make his mark, a new fastest goal in Super Cup history.

Ever Banega had previously held the record, scoring in the third minute of play during the 2015 clash between Sevilla and Barcelona, with that game producing one of the best finals in the tournament's history as Barca recorded a 5-4 win after extra time.

[5] Chelsea Opted Against Fekir Move
Chelsea held talks with Lyon over a prospective move for forward Nabil Fekir but reports state they opted against signing the France international over the summer after keeping hold of a number of players in the same position.

Fekir, who earlier in the transfer window saw a move to Liverpool fall apart after failing a medical, was linked with a number of clubs during pre-season after an impressive 2017-18 campaign in Ligue 1.

The Lyon skipper scored 23 goals and laid on a further eight assists in 40 appearances across all competitions last term, and the Blues did attempt to negotiate with the player's club regarding a move late in the window.

Fekir missed Lyon's International Champions Cup clash at Stamford Bridge on August 7 as officials from the two clubs met, but Chelsea decided instead to complete their business with the signings of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Mateo Kovacic later in the week.

Maurizio Sarri is keen to bolster his attacking options in the coming months, with the west London outfit also continuing to hold an interest in Borussia Dortmund's Christian Pulisic.

[6] Emery Confirms Cech Will Start  Chelsea
Petr Cech will continue in goal for Arsenal against Chelsea despite criticism over his performance against Manchester City, Unai Emery has confirmed.

Emery signed goalkeeper Bernd Leno from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer for £22m, but Cech retained his starting role for the new manager's first league match in charge of Arsenal. Cech, 36, insisted he is comfortable with a new style of play under Emery which places an emphasis on playing out from the back.

He attempted more passes in the 2-0 defeat to Manchester City than in any Premier League game he played last season under Arsene Wenger, Emery's predecessor, but lost possession 11 times.

"I am very happy with his performance," Emery said ahead of Arsenal's next Premier League fixture, which sees them play Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. "I think he has experience, quality, capacity like a first goalkeeper with us - and also Bernd Leno.

"Saturday the decision is easy, Petr Cech will continue to start the match, I believe in him. If he starts bad, I believe in him also."

[7]Man United Rubbish Pogba-Mourinho Rift Reports
Manchester United have described reports that Jose Mourinho and Paul Pogba had a big bust-up as "absolute nonsense", insisting their relationship is good.

It is understood United rejected an offer for Pogba from Barcelona earlier in August and despite getting the captain's armband for their Premier League's opening win against Leicester, his comments after the game hinted at tensions at Old Trafford.

"If you're not happy, you cannot give your best," Pogba said having taken the unusual step of stopping on three occasions to speak to reporters at Old Trafford. "There are things that I cannot say otherwise I will get fined."

In Thursday's reports it was also suggested that Pogba had hit back by telling Mourinho he should go through his agent Mino Raiola if he planned to speak to him formally again.

United have been incensed by these stories calling them "absolute nonsense" and that furthermore, the relationship between Pogba and Mourinho remained "good".

[8] Aguero: My Best Friend in England is De Gea
Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero may be a direct rival of Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea, but the pair remain close friends.

The duo first saw their paths cross in Spain at Atletico Madrid, with two seasons spent working alongside one another as senior stars.

Both then completed moves to England in the summer of 2011, with big-money deals taking them to opposing sides of the Manchester divide.

They have locked horns on a regular basis since linking up with City and United, but their friendship away from the field remains as strong as ever.

Aguero admitted as much to The Sun at the premiere of a new Amazon documentary which offers an insight to goings on at the Etihad Stadium called All or Nothing: Manchester City: “I hang out a lot with David because we played together for Atletico Madrid.

“We have a good friendship from Atletico... but he now plays for United and I play for City.”

[9] Kehrer Completes €37m PSG Move
Paris Saint-Germain have completed the €37 million (£33m/$42m) signing of Thilo Kehrer on a five-year contract from Schalke.

The 21-year-old is now tied to the Ligue 1 champions through to the summer of 2023. He is considered to be a useful addition at Parc des Princes for the present and future, with there still plenty of potential to be unlocked in the Germany U21 international.

Kehrer is delighted to have been given the opportunity to further his development in France, with the youngster excited to be joining an ambitious project. He told PSG’s official website : “It is with much joy and ambition that I have signed for Paris Saint-Germain."

[10] Barcelona Confirm Exit of Defender Marlon
Sassuolo have signed Brazilian defender Marlon from Barcelona for a fee potentially rising to €12 million (£10.7m/$13.6m).

The 22-year-old found opportunities limited at Camp Nou and was recalled halfway through a two-season loan spell with Nice in order to be moved on.

Though he made just two La Liga appearances, Barca have included a buy-back option in the deal for the former Fluminense man.

Sassuolo have paid an initial €6m with the amount to be doubled if Marlon, who reportedly attracted interest from West Ham earlier in pre-season, plays 50 games for his new club. The Blaugrana will receive 50 per cent of any future fee if he does not reach that mark.

[11] Jack Cork Strikes as Burnley Advance in Europa League
Burnley will face Olympiakos for a place in the Europa League group stages after Jack Cork's 97th-minute strike sealed an extra-time victory over Istanbul Basaksehir at Turf Moor.

After the first leg in Turkey ended goalless last week, Sean Dyche's side fought hard to keep their hopes of a first European campaign since 1961 alive.

Ashley Barnes came close to breaking the deadlock in the first half of the third qualifying round tie, but Istanbul were the better side in the second period as Joe Hart denied substitute Emmanuel Adebayor.

With the game heading for penalties, Cork - who scored in the 3-1 win over Aberdeen in the previous round - took Jeff Hendrick's lay-off to curl a fine effort into the top corner to seal a tight contest.
