Leadership is God’s creation as is the cause with every other good and perfect gift. Consider this Biblical reference, “Then Saul sent the messengers to see David, saying, “Bring him up to me in the bed, that I may kill him.”And when the messengers came in, behold, the image was in the bed, with the pillow of goats' hair at its head.Saul said to Michal, “Why have you deceived me thus and let my enemy go, so that he has escaped?” And Michal answered Saul, “He said to me, ‘Let me go. Why should I kill you?’”Now David fled and escaped, and he came to Samuel at Ramah and told him all that Saul had done to him. And he and Samuel went and lived at Naioth. And it was told Saul, “Behold, David is at Naioth in Ramah.” Then Saul sent messengers to take David, and when they saw the company of the prophets prophesying, and Samuel standing as head over them, the Spirit of God came upon the messengers of Saul, and they also prophesied. When it was told Saul, he sent other messengers, and they also prophesied. And Saul sent messengers again the third time, and they also prophesied. Then he himself went to Ramah and came to the great well that is in Secu. And he asked, “Where are Samuel and David?” And one said, “Behold, they are at Naioth in Ramah.”And he went there to Naioth in Ramah. And the Spirit of God came upon him also, and as he went he prophesied until he came to Naioth in Ramah. And he too stripped off his clothes, and he too prophesied before Samuel and lay naked all that day and all that night. Thus it is said, “Is Saul also among the prophets?”

In the 1 Samuel 19:15-24, we see the significance of leadership . Here David was fleeing from Saul who was bent on killing him. Naturally, Prophet Samuel’s place provided David a good measure of safety. However, Saul still came after him there but Samuel, in the company of other prophets over whom he was the leader, maintained their focus -prophesing. Isn’t it a great surprise that without swords , spears or shields, king Saul and three detachments of soldiers were completely overpowered and disarmed? God is a wonder. Leadership is all about influence, relevance and responsibility. Prophet Samuel manifested all these and David was preserved while Saul was humbled. Leadership is not positional [ like Saul thought ] ; it is depositional [ like Samuel demonstrated ]

Jesus Christ modelled effective leadership as we see in the Scriptures. Leadership is actually rooted in service as against our common experience, which suggests the contrary. In order for us to not to be in doubt as to what true leadership means, Christ washed the feet of the disciples. He simply laid aside every other consideration. Consider this in John 13:9-15 ,”Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only but also my hands and my head!” Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.”For he knew who was to betray him; that was why he said, “Not all of you are clean.” When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, “Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right, for so I am.If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do just as I have done to you.”
