CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS WISELY

DEVOTIONAL TYPE: CAC LIVING WATER DAILY DEVOTIONAL

Topic: CHOOSE YOUR FRIENDS WISELY
Read: 2 Kings 3:4-9

MEMORISE: Then he went and sent to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, saying, "The king of Moab has rebelled against me. Will you go with me to fight against Moab?"_ *(2 Kings 3:7)

EXPOSITION
Due to the rebellion of Moab, Jehoram (king of Israel) decided to march against the Moabites. He called for the alliance of Jehoshaphat, then king of Judah, as well as that of the king of Edom. Jehoshaphat agreed to assist Him, not knowing, they would eventually be stranded in the wilderness of Edom.

Jehoshaphat was known in the history of Judah to be a righteous king *(cf. v. 14)*. However, Jehoshaphat's main weakness was to align himself with people who were evil. Often, these people, such as Jehoram and, earlier on, Ahaziah, as well as Ahab, were totally capable of leading Jehoshaphat to his utter ruin. If not for the intervention of God through prophet Elisha who looked upon Jehoshaphat with favour *(2 Kings 3:14)*, the three kings and their vast army have ended up in self-destruction, by the folly of Jehoram *(2 Kings 3: 8-9)*.

Are there times when you are like Jehoshaphat? Do you cling to relationships that you know will lead you to trouble? Do you give in to bad advice in order to avoid trouble, or looking uncivilised in the eyes of others? Do you have a weakness to please everybody, even God's enemies? Are you sure you don't have soft spot for worldly standards and practices?

There are situations in some Christian's lives when they find themselves in the company of friends they know are leading them to self-destruction. Yet, they cling to such, maybe because they feel no one else is willing to show them much concern. It is only the grace of God that brings such brethren back to their right senses.

You will account for your life before God; do not live to please men at the expense of knowing and doing what is right and godly. Choose your friends wisely, and in the Lord *(2 Corinthians 6:14ff)*.

*PRAYER POINTS*
*1.* Dear Lord, help me to be wise in my choice of friendships.
*2.* Lord, may it never be that I align myself with Your enemies, whether knowingly or ignorantly.
*3.* Lord, bring to futility every association/gathering against the furtherance of Your gospel and holiness in this nation, in Jesus' name.
